My journey to creating Fizzy and Free was born out of personal experience and a deep desire to help others. Like many moms, I faced the overwhelming pressures of motherhood and found myself turning to alcohol as a means of coping. It was a temporary escape that left me feeling disconnected and unfulfilled.
Through my own path to emotional sobriety, I discovered a profound transformation. This journey wasn't easy, but it was incredibly rewarding. 2004
I started drinking socially with friends, trying to fit in. My first time getting drunk was a messy experience in Montreal. While it felt funny at the time, I now see it as the start of a difficult journey with alcohol.
The Timeline
Through the years
I drank on a work night for the first time when a friend was visiting. As we watched Dancing with the Stars, I remember thinking, "wow, I’m drinking on a work night." It felt like a red flag, but I brushed it off.
2006
My social drinking gradually increased, becoming a regular part of my routine. Happy hours, basketball games, and casual outings made alcohol a steady staple in my life.
2007-2015
When I was pregnant with my first child, I constantly craved alcohol, making it the longest nine months of my life. I even joked in my bump progress pictures about craving drinks.
2015
After having my children, I was focused on losing the baby weight, but I quickly realized I was drinking more calories than I thought. I started managing my diet to make room for alcohol, often having at least two drinks a day.
2019
I lost the baby weight and more, but my alcohol consumption continued. I was cutting out food to make room for drinks, a behavior known as "drunkorexia." I decided to work with a dietitian, and we set a goal of no more than two drinks a day.
2021
I began questioning my relationship with alcohol and went dry for May, but it was a struggle. Afterward, my drinking increased, and by November, I knew I had a problem. I managed to quit drinking on November 1st but relapsed in January.
2022
In January, I tried moderating my drinking but spiraled into a 12-day bender that landed me in the ER with pancreatitis. This was my rock bottom, and I knew I needed to stop drinking for good. I haven’t had a drink since.
2023
I started Fizzy and Free to help other moms who may be struggling with alcohol. My goal is to share my journey and support others in finding freedom from drinking.
